BIC® Soleil® Swim Sisters

There often comes a time in a veteran triathlete's or veteran swimmer’s career when they feel the need to give back to the sport, to their fellow sister triathletes. One of the most rewarding ways to give back is to volunteer to be a BIC® Soleil® Swim Sister.

Responsibilities

  • The BIC® Soleil® Swim Sisters program, sponsored by Bic® Soleil®, is made up of women "guides" offering encouragement and providing a calming presence to women who may experience anxiety in the water
  • BIC® Soleil® Swim Sisters swim alongside participants, and when necessary, secure help from kayakers or lifeguards. Each Race includes a significant number of water safety personnel including open water certified lifeguards, kayakers and divers
  • BIC® Soleil® Swim Sisters are NOT expected to provide lifeguard-type assistance to participants
  • BIC® Soleil® Swim Sisters will be in the water for approx. 30-45 minute intervals

What You Need to Bring

  • A wetsuit if you have one or can borrow one from a friend
  • Fins "Zoomers" work well as they offer added power while lowering the risk of interfering/kicking another swimmer as they are much smaller than "dive" fins.
  • A towel
  • Goggles if you wear them, or sunglasses… Swim support personnel rarely have their faces submerged in the water
  • Dry clothes to change into (post swim)
  • A gear bag to store your gear
  • Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun
  • A big smile, gentle spirit and great attitude

What to do when you Arrive

  • Go to the BIC® Soleil® Swim Sisters tent to receive your BIC® Soleil® Swim Sister T-shirt, swim cap and refreshments for the morning
  • You will be directed where to go from there during the BIC® Soleil® Swim Sisters briefing
