 COURSE DESCRIPTION & DIAGRAMS
 
SWIM
 
Distance   800 yards (distances are approximate)

Route  
  • This triangularly shaped course uses two large turn buoys
  • Enter the water down a boat ramp 
  • Swim east to the first turn buoy 
  • Turn right (south) around the first buoy 
  • Swim the second leg, angling toward shore to second turn buoy 
  • Turn 180 degrees and swim toward the swim exit boat ramp
     

Water Temperature  

Expected to be 65-70 degrees

NOTES:   There are restrictions related to swimming in Lake Washington. Swimming is permitted in designated areas only.  
 
BIKE
 
Distance   12 miles (distances are approximate)

Bike Route  
  • The out and back bike course begins as participants exit the transition through the start scaffolding on Lake Washington Blvd.
  • Outbound cyclists head north on Lake Washington Blvd
  • Proceed to Day Street, making a 90 degree left turn onto Day Street
  • Make an immediate 90 degree right turn onto the I-90 access road
  • This is a particularly narrow and technical part of the course
  • All cyclists, in both directions, must ride single file on the I-90 access road
  • Outbound cyclists will benefit by downshifting prior to the turn at Day Street
  • Once onto I90, Outbound cyclists ride east at a gradual incline to a turn around point
  • Cyclists then return to the finish on the same course 
  • Enter the transition area through the finish scaffolding

  • Run southbound on Lake Washington Blvd toward Seward Park 
  • Turn around at about Orcas Street 
  • Run northbound on Lake Washington Boulevard

  • Run up a short hill to Genesee Street 
  • Travel west on the westbound side of Genesee Street
  • Enter fenced vehicle storage lot of the Seattle Parks facility 
  • Finish at south end of Genesee Park

DIRECTIONS & PARKING

RACE DAY - SUNDAY, September 19, 2010

CARPOOLING IS ENCOURAGED
There is no bike loading or unloading on S. Genesee Street .   
Parking is prohibited in neighborhoods surrounding Genesee Park on Sunday, September 19th. Therefore, we ask that both participant and spectator use the designated parking areas.

THERE ARE NO DROP-OFFS ALLOWED ON SOUTH GENESEE STREET.

                 TO RACE SITE - Genesee Park, Seattle, WA

From East: (Bellevue, Mercer Island, etc.):

Take I-90 west to Rainier Avenue South exit (#3A, just past Mt. Baker Tunnel).
Travel south on Rainier Avenue approx. 2 miles to S. Genesee Street.
Follow directions to parking options below.

From North or South of Seattle on I-5:

Take the S Columbian Way exit, #163 (#163A if heading south).
Get in the right hand lane and continue up the hill as it curves around to the left (east).
Cross Beacon Avenue S and then continue downhill to Martin Luther King Way S.
Cross MLK Way S; the street now becomes S Alaska Street.
Turn left (north) at the bottom of the hill onto Rainier Avenue S.
Turn right (east) at the next light onto S Genesee St.
Follow directions to parking options below

                             RACE DAY PARKING OPTIONS

Genesee Park Field

From S. Genesee Street, turn right (south) onto 46th Avenue S
Turn right (west) onto S. Snoqualmie St.
A parking monitor will direct you to park in the field on the right (north) side of the street.

Rainier Community Center

From S. Genesee Street, turn right (south) on 38th Avenue S.
Turn Left (east) on S. Conover Way and proceed one block to parking lot.
Follow parking attendants' instructions.

Hawthorne Elementary School

From S Genesee Street, turn left (north) onto Cascadia Avenue S.
The school is on the left.
Enter the playground through the gate in the chain link fence.
Follow parking attendants' instructions.

Jumbo King Parking Lot

Situated at the corner of S. Genesee Street and Rainer Avenue.
Entrances are on Rainer Avenue S. north of S. Genesee Street and, after turning onto S. Genesee Street.
PLEASE PARK HERE ONLY IF YOU PLAN TO LEAVE BY 9:30. OTHERWISE, PLEASE CHOOSE ANOTHER PARKING AREA.
A monitor will be there to direct the parking.

Columbia Plaza (Columbia City Farmer's Market)

Situated at 4801 S. Rainer Avenue S, between S. Alaska Street and S. Edmonds Street.
This is a pay lot; $4.00 for from 2-6 hours.
Entrance is off of Rainer Avenue S.
ATTENTION: PARKING IN THE BANK OF AMERICA LOT IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
